CAC Says Good-Bye to Stephen Picha
The Center for Action and Contemplation would like to convey its deep gratitude as it says good-bye to Stephen Picha, former Executive Director.
In the summer of 2010, the Board of Directors and Stephen envisioned a new plan for the CAC, which included a new Executive Director (filled by Alicia Johnson in May 2011) and the shift of Stephen to a new leadership role. Funding for the new role did not materialize, and concurrently Stephen discerned to move on from the CAC to pursue emerging interests.
Stephen joined the CAC in September of 2000 and became Executive Director in July 2001. During Stephen’s leadership, the scope and reach of the CAC’s activities increased significantly. The CAC moved from rented space at Holy Family Church to the current property and Stillpoint guesthouse.
Stephen and a growing number of others gave significant energy to program development and to conferences involving other spiritual teachers alongside Father Richard Rohr, O.F.M. The advent of the Mustard Seed Resource Center and a web presence has expanded the reach of Richard’s teachings internationally as well as domestically. Under Stephen’s passionate vision, the Men’s Rites of Passage spread to eight other countries and multiple regions in the U.S., the Men As Learners And Elders (MALEs) program began, and the Center purchased the Red Mesa property, 100 miles west of Albuquerque.
“I am grateful for the many memories, experiences, and relationships that have been a part of this past decade. It has been an honor to meet and journey with so many amazing people. I will hold this time and work in a sacred and special place in my heart,” said Stephen.
In gratitude for Stephen’s ten years of spirit-led and expansive contributions to the Center, the Board of Directors has created the Stephen J. Picha Scholarship Fund for the Men’s Rites of Passage.
