Way of the Cross 2008

20th Annual Way of the Cross
Saints and Martyrs of the Americas
Streets of downtown Albuquerque

Gathering Song:
Santo, santo, santo, mi Corazon te adora!
Mi Corazon te sabe decir: santo eres Señor.
Holy, holy, holy, my heart, my heart adores you!
My heart is glad to say the words:
You are holy Lord.

"Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight . . . and run with perseverance the race that is set before us."
Hebrews 12:1

Thank you for joining us for this special commemorative Way of the Cross.  Around 200 pilgrims prayerfully walked the streets of downtown Albuquerque on Good Friday, March 21, 2008, to remember Jesus’ final journey to the cross.  Each station featured the voice of one or more of the saints and martyrs of the Americas who sought to embody Christ's Way of peace and justice in their time and context -- facing extreme suffering and even death.

As you meditate on their lives and example, consider the questions "What is mine to do?" "How do I take my next steps?" "What are my gifts?" "What are my particular ways of putting together my spirituality with our politics?" .Each one of us is called to respond to poverty, racism, oppression, and economic and political injustice in our own time and context. Throughout the pages that follow are suggestions for actions you might undertake in order to take your place among those who stand for peace and justice. May we each find our own faces in the mirror icon.

"Don't ask what the world needs.  Ask what makes you come alive, and go do it.  Because what the world needs is people who have come alive." - Howard Thurman.
